Statement of Need
There is a clinical knowledge gap between those of us who live in the world of pediatrics and are tuned into pain management, and those who have to work with children, but don’t necessarily have as much experience working with them. When children present in pain there is a lot of attention given to the medical issues. The medical issues can in turn overwhelm the healthcare professionals’ ability to focus in on pain management.
Intended Audience
This CME/CE activity is intended for practicing physicians, nurses, and other health care professionals who have an interest in pediatric pain management.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
- Identify two barriers to pediatric pain medicine.
- Identify an appropriate pediatric pain assessment tool based on a patient’s age/ability.
Accreditation Statement
This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essential Areas and policies of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education. The Dannemiller Memorial Educational Foundation is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Method of participation
The activity should take approximately half an hour to complete. The participant should, in order, read the objectives and other introductory CME information review the slides and listen to the accompanying audio, complete the registration form, post-test, and evaluation form. To access the registration form and post-test, click on the prompt on the final slide in the presentation. To receive credit for this activity, follow the instructions provided on the post-test. This credit is valid through December 31, 2009. No credit will be given after this date. There is no fee associated with this CME activity.
