Target Audience/Program Description
The purpose of this educational activity is to provide information to Pain Specialist Physicians, Family Practitioners, and Pharmacists in prescribing opioids for their chronic pain patients for accurate diagnosis and successful management.
Statement of Need
The purpose of this educational activity is to provide information to pain specialists in prescribing opioids for their chronic pain patients for accurate diagnosis and successful management.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- Identify patient screening tools and methodologies necessary for the proper identification of patients for opioid therapy.
- Apply these tools and methodologies to properly screen patients with challenging medical issues.
- Discuss the most recent evidence-based clinical trials regarding the effective use of opioids in the management of moderate to severe chronic pain.
- Recognize drug seeking behavior and methods available to physicians to prevent opioid misuse, abuse and diversion.
- Apply appropriate laws and ethical standards relating to prescribing and dispensing of opioids for the management of moderate to severe chronic pain.
